The Chi-Lites are an American R&B and soul group formed in Chicago in 1959, achieving their greatest success in the early 1970s. The group, led by Eugene Record, became known for their smooth, sophisticated soul sound and romantic ballads. Their biggest hits included 'Have You Seen Her' and 'Oh Girl,' both of which topped the R&B charts and crossed over to pop success. The Chi-Lites' music featured lush orchestral arrangements, sweet harmonies, and Record's falsetto vocals. Songs like 'Stoned Out of My Mind' and 'Homely Girl' showcased their ability to craft memorable soul classics. The group's sound influenced the development of quiet storm and smooth soul. Despite lineup changes and Record's departure and return, The Chi-Lites continued performing. They represent classic Chicago soul at its most polished and romantic, creating timeless love songs that continue to be celebrated and sampled.
