They pioneered a style they called 'rockney' - a blend of rock and roll with traditional London music hall and cockney culture. The duo achieved considerable success in the late 1970s and 1980s with singalong hits including 'Rabbit,' 'Ain't No Pleasing You,' and 'Sideboard Song (Got My Beer in the Sideboard Here).' Chas & Dave's music featured piano, guitar, and humorous lyrics celebrating working-class London life and culture. They also recorded several songs for Tottenham Hotspur Football Club. Both were skilled musicians who had previously worked as session players. Chas Hodges passed away in 2018, but their music remains beloved as part of British popular culture, representing authentic cockney working-class entertainment.
