Artist: Carl Perkins
Genre: Rockabilly
Carl Perkins was an American rockabilly musician born in 1932, who became one of rock and roll's pioneers. Perkins wrote and first recorded 'Blue Suede Shoes' in 1955, which became a massive hit and one of rock and roll's defining songs. The song was later covered by Elvis Presley, making it even more famous. Perkins was an influential guitarist whose style bridged country and rock and roll, influencing countless rock guitarists including The Beatles, who recorded several of his songs. Other Perkins compositions included 'Matchbox,' 'Honey Don't,' and 'Everybody's Trying to Be My Baby.' A car accident in 1956 limited his career momentum, but Perkins continued performing and recording. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and influenced the rockabilly revival. Perkins passed away in 1998, remembered as one of rockabilly's founding fathers and a major influence on rock and roll.
