Cactus World News were an Irish rock band formed in Dublin in the early 1980s, known for their atmospheric, politically conscious rock music. The band consisted of Frank Kearns, Eoin McEvoy, Wayne Sheehy, and Fergal MacAndris. They achieved success in Ireland and received attention from the UK music press for their powerful, U2-influenced sound. Their music combined post-punk energy with anthemic rock, featuring passionate vocals and guitar-driven arrangements. Cactus World News addressed political and social issues in their lyrics, particularly Irish themes. Despite critical acclaim and a major label contract with MCA, they never achieved major commercial breakthrough. The band split up in the late 1980s.
