Artist: Buddy Holly
Genre: Rock and Roll
Buddy Holly was an American rock and roll pioneer born in 1936, who became one of the genre's most influential musicians despite his career lasting only 18 months. Holly pioneered the rock band lineup of two guitars, bass, and drums that became standard. With The Crickets, he recorded numerous rock and roll classics including 'That'll Be the Day,' 'Peggy Sue,' 'Oh Boy!,' and 'Rave On.' Holly's innovative recording approach, songwriting, and performance influenced countless musicians. His use of studio techniques like double-tracking vocals and clean, precise guitar playing set new standards. His death in a 1959 plane crash at age 22 became 'The Day the Music Died.'
