The Brothers Johnson were an American funk and R&B duo consisting of brothers George and Louis Johnson. They achieved major late 1970s and early 1980s success with sophisticated funk, soul, and disco blend. Produced by Quincy Jones, they scored massive hits including 'Strawberry Letter 23,' 'Stomp!,' and 'I'll Be Good to You.' George Johnson's innovative bass playing, including slap bass technique, was highly influential, while Louis Johnson was an accomplished guitarist. Their music featured tight grooves, polished production, and infectious melodies. The Brothers Johnson's sound perfectly captured the transition from funk to disco to early 1980s R&B. Louis passed away in 2015.
