Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter born Benjamin Franklin Peay in 1931, known for his rich baritone voice and smooth vocal style. Benton achieved major late 1950s and early 1960s success with pop and R&B hits. His biggest songs included 'It's Just a Matter of Time,' 'Endlessly,' 'Rainy Night in Georgia,' and 'Hotel Happiness.' Benton's vocal style was characterized by warmth, smoothness, and emotional sincerity. He was also an accomplished songwriter, co-writing numerous hits. Benton maintained his career through changing musical trends, achieving a comeback hit with 'Rainy Night in Georgia' in 1970. He passed away in 1988.
