Artist: Boomtown Rats
Genre: New Wave
The Boomtown Rats were an Irish new wave band formed in Dublin in 1975, fronted by Bob Geldof. The band achieved significant success in the late 1970s and early 1980s with energetic punk-influenced new wave. Their biggest hits included 'Rat Trap,' which became the first Irish band's song to reach UK number one, and 'I Don't Like Mondays,' inspired by a school shooting. The Boomtown Rats' music combined punk energy with sharp social commentary and catchy hooks. Geldof's charismatic personality made the band prominent beyond their music. After Geldof organized Live Aid in 1985, the band disbanded in 1986 but have reunited for tours.
