Boney M were a Euro disco group created by German producer Frank Farian in 1974. The group's Caribbean members (Liz Mitchell, Marcia Barrett, Maizie Williams, Bobby Farrell) became one of the most successful disco acts in Europe. Boney M scored numerous international hits including 'Daddy Cool,' 'Ma Baker,' 'Rivers of Babylon,' and 'Rasputin.' Their music combined disco beats with catchy melodies, Caribbean influences, and theatrical vocal arrangements. 'Rivers of Babylon' became one of the best-selling UK singles ever. The group was hugely popular in Europe, particularly Germany and the UK. Controversy later emerged over recording participation extent, but Boney M remains synonymous with 1970s disco.
