Blue Öyster Cult are an American rock band formed on Long Island in 1967, known for their hard rock sound infused with occult imagery and science fiction themes. The band achieved 1970s commercial success with sound combining hard rock, heavy metal, and psychedelia. Their biggest hit, '(Don't Fear) The Reaper' in 1976, became a rock classic with memorable guitar riff and philosophical mortality lyrics. Other notable songs include 'Godzilla' and 'Burnin' for You.' Blue Öyster Cult's music featured dueling lead guitars, literary and sci-fi influenced lyrics, and harder edge than typical 1970s rock.
