Black were a British new wave band formed in Liverpool in 1981, led by vocalist Colin Vearncombe. The band achieved international success with their 1987 single 'Wonderful Life,' which became a massive European hit and reached top ten in multiple countries. The song's memorable melody, orchestral arrangement, and Vearncombe's distinctive vocals made it an enduring 1980s pop classic. Black's music combined new wave sensibilities with sophisticated pop production and thoughtful, often melancholic lyrics. Other songs included 'Sweetest Smile' and 'Everything's Coming Up Roses.' Despite 'Wonderful Life' success, Black remained essentially a one-hit wonder internationally. Colin Vearncombe passed away in 2016 following a car accident.
