Black Grape were an English rock band formed in 1993 by former Happy Mondays frontman Shaun Ryder and rapper Kermit. The band emerged from Happy Mondays' ashes with sound combining rock, funk, hip-hop, and electronic music. Their debut album 'It's Great When You're Straight...Yeah' was a commercial and critical success, featuring hits like 'Reverend Black Grape' and 'In the Name of the Father.' Black Grape's music was characterized by Ryder's distinctive vocals and surreal lyrics, funky bass lines, and interplay between Ryder and Kermit. They demonstrated that Shaun Ryder's artistic vision could succeed outside Happy Mondays.
