Black Dog Productions (often shortened to The Black Dog) are an English electronic music group formed in Sheffield in 1989, who became influential in ambient techno and intelligent dance music development. The group, founded by Ken Downie, Ed Handley, and Andy Turner, created sophisticated electronic music combining techno rhythms with ambient atmospheres and experimental sound design. Their Warp Records work, including album 'Bytes,' helped define early 1990s British electronic music sound. After Handley and Turner left to form Plaid, Downie continued Black Dog as experimental electronic music vehicle. The group influenced countless electronic artists and helped establish intelligent techno template.
