Bill Nelson is an English guitarist, singer, and songwriter born in 1948, best known as leader of art rock band Be-Bop Deluxe. Nelson is a highly innovative guitarist whose work spans art rock, new wave, ambient, and instrumental music. With Be-Bop Deluxe in the 1970s, he created sophisticated art rock combining glam with progressive complexity and pop accessibility. After Be-Bop Deluxe disbanded, Nelson formed Red Noise and pursued an extensive solo career, releasing over 200 albums. His guitar playing is characterized by expressive effects use, melodic sensibility, and technical prowess. Nelson has been a pioneer in new technologies and ambient music, earning a devoted cult following.
