Bill Evans was an American jazz pianist and composer born in 1929, considered one of the most influential jazz pianists of all time. Evans revolutionized jazz piano with innovative harmonic concepts, lyrical approach to melody, and sophisticated touch. His work on Miles Davis's 'Kind of Blue' helped define modal jazz. As a leader, Evans formed legendary trios that redefined the jazz trio format as conversation among equals rather than piano with accompaniment. Evans's compositions including 'Waltz for Debby' became jazz standards. His playing was characterized by introspective lyricism, harmonic sophistication, and delicate touch. He passed away in 1980.
