Artist: Bad Brains
Genre: Hardcore Punk
Bad Brains are an American rock band formed in Washington, D.C., in 1976, considered hardcore punk pioneers and one of the most influential punk bands in history. Originally a jazz fusion group, Bad Brains converted to punk and created incredibly fast, aggressive sound that helped define hardcore. The band, consisting of H.R., Dr. Know, Darryl Jenifer, and Earl Hudson, were also known for incorporating reggae. As African Americans in the predominantly white punk scene, Bad Brains broke barriers while creating some of punk's most intense music. Despite internal tensions and H.R.'s mental health struggles, Bad Brains' influence on hardcore, metal, and alternative music is immeasurable.
