Associates were a Scottish post-punk and new wave duo formed in Dundee in 1979 by vocalist Billy Mackenzie and guitarist Alan Rankine. Known for their innovative and experimental approach to pop music, they combined sophisticated production with Mackenzie's distinctive operatic vocal style. Their most successful period came in the early 1980s with albums like 'Sulk' and hits including 'Party Fears Two' and 'Club Country.' The band's sound blended elements of pop, funk, and avant-garde experimentation.
