Andrew Gold was an American singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer known for his sophisticated pop-rock compositions and session work. Born in 1951, Gold achieved success in the 1970s with hits including 'Lonely Boy' and 'Thank You for Being a Friend,' which became the theme for 'The Golden Girls.' Gold was also an accomplished session musician contributing to albums by Linda Ronstadt and others. He later formed the duo Wax with Graham Gouldman. Gold passed away in 2011.
