Their self-titled debut album in 1976 featured sophisticated songwriting, tight harmonies, and a polished production style typical of 1970s West Coast rock. While they never achieved major commercial success, American Flyer released quality albums that appealed to fans of harmony-rich country rock. The band's music emphasized melodic songwriting and vocal harmonies over flashy instrumentation. Despite critical respect and the pedigree of their members, American Flyer disbanded after releasing just a few albums, but their work remains appreciated by fans of 1970s country rock and soft rock.
