African Head Charge are a British dub and world music group formed in London in 1981 by percussionist Bonjo Iyabinghi Noah under the guidance of producer Adrian Sherwood. The band creates a unique sound blending dub reggae with African percussion, ambient sounds, and experimental production techniques. Their music is characterized by heavy use of percussion, echo effects, and atmospheric soundscapes that evoke both African rhythms and Jamaican dub traditions. African Head Charge have been influential in the development of world music and experimental dub, releasing numerous albums on On-U Sound Records. Their hypnotic, trance-inducing sound has earned them a devoted cult following among fans of experimental and world music.
