Acker Bilk was an English clarinetist born Bernard Stanley Bilk in 1929, who became one of Britain's most beloved jazz musicians. Known for his distinctive smooth tone and trademark goatee and bowler hat, Bilk brought traditional jazz to mainstream audiences. He achieved international fame with his 1961 instrumental 'Stranger on the Shore,' which became a massive hit worldwide. He continued performing into his eighties, maintaining his status as a British cultural icon until his death in 2014.
