Ace were a British rock band formed in 1972, emerging from the pub rock scene that predated punk rock. The band is best known for their 1974 hit 'How Long,' written and sung by Paul Carrack, which became an international success and remains a soft rock classic. The song's catchy melody, Carrack's soulful vocals, and the band's tight musicianship made it a standout of mid-1970s rock. Despite 'How Long's' success, Ace were unable to replicate it and remained essentially a one-hit wonder. Paul Carrack went on to a successful career with Squeeze and Mike + The Mechanics.
