The 13th Floor Elevators were an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas, formed in 1965 who are credited as pioneers of the psychedelic rock genre. Led by vocalist Roky Erickson, their raw, intense music and explicit advocacy of LSD use made them controversial figures. Their debut album 'The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators' is considered a landmark recording. Tommy Hall's electric jug created their distinctive sound. Despite legal troubles and mental health issues affecting members, the band's influence on psychedelic and garage rock was immense and enduring.
