Artist: Hole
Genre: Alternative Rock
Hole was an American alternative rock band formed in Los Angeles in 1989, fronted by Courtney Love. The band became one of the most commercially successful and controversial acts to emerge from the grunge era. Their major label debut 'Live Through This' (1994) received critical acclaim and commercial success, featuring songs like 'Doll Parts,' 'Violet,' and 'Miss World' that combined punk aggression with pop melody. Love's confessional lyrics and confrontational persona made her one of the most visible figures in 1990s rock. 'Celebrity Skin' (1998) achieved even greater commercial success with a more polished sound. Hole's combination of feminist themes, raw emotion, and melodic songwriting influenced numerous subsequent female-fronted rock bands. Despite internal conflicts and hiatuses, the band's impact on alternative rock and female representation in rock remains significant.
